First 'Fault in our Stars' trailer released

The first trailer for 20th Century Fox's The Fault in our Stars was released yesterday on the movie's official website. The movie is based on the young adult novel of the same name by John Green.

This is the first movie adaptation of a John Green novel, but he’s already well-known among young adult fiction readers. His 2006 novel Looking for Alaska won the Michael L. Printz award for excellence in young adult literature. The next year, An Abundance of Katherines, was also nominated for the award. Fault was released in January 2012 and quickly hit the New York Times Bestseller List.

Your own YA Fiction Examiner reviewed Fault back when it was first released. The verdict? A great choice for Green’s target audience and dedicated fans, but not his best work. Still, the endearing love story between two cancer patients seems to have struck a chord. Entertainment Weekly, the New York Times, and NPR all gave it rave reviews.

Both of the movie's stars, Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, are well-known among their target audience. Woodley’s credits include The Secret Life of the American Teenager, The Descendants, and The Spectacular Now (also based on a young adult novel); Elgort had a role in the most recent reboot of horror classic Carrie. The pair will play brother and sister in another anticipated YA book-to-movie adaptation, Divergent, which opens in March.

With a built-in fanbase & actors already admired by their target audience, your YA fiction Examiner has no doubt the fault in our stars will be a hit. So check it out when it comes to theaters June 6.
