It is a memorable day in Washington D.C. Hundreds of thousands came to witness the second inauguration of President Obama and the festivities that followed on January 21, 2013. Of course, the Obama family showed up in style.
For the speech and parade, Mrs. Obama wears a navy and black checkered silk coat by Thom Brown. Underneath, she is wearing a stripped dress by Thom Brown, and a shrug by Reed Krakoff. Her belt and shoes are J.Crew, while her necklace is by Cathy Waterman. According to the White House, this outfit will be sent to the National Archives after the event’s conclusion. President Obama is wearing a conservative suit and topcoat with a bright blue tie. Both daughters were dressed in brightly colored coats. Malia Obama has a coat and gloves J. Crew and Sasha is wearing a Kate Spade coat and dress.
For the evening, Mrs. Obama is wearing a dress by designer Jason Wu, who also designed her gown for the first Inaugural Ball four years ago. She is the striking First Lady in Red for the evening, wearing an elegant “victory red” dress. Jill Biden has a slim blue gown by Vera Wang. President Obama wore white tie to the event. Her choice of dress is significant since it will be displayed at the Smithsonian.
