President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama announced that Bo has a playmate. The one-year-old female puppy named Sunny is a Portuguese Water Dog just like Bo. The Obamas have chosen that breed because of Malia's allergy.
According to the announcement, Sunny was born in Michigan in June 2012, and arrived at the White House a day ago. The dog was named for her sunny and cheerful disposition. She is full of energy and very friendly.
First Lady Michelle told reporters last October that "Bo doesn't have enough dog interaction." She tweeted a picture of the two dogs along with a short message that said, "So excited to introduce the newest member of the Obama family -- our puppy, Sunny!"
Now Bo will have company when he goes on official visits to Walter Reed and Children’s National Medical Center and when greeting guests at the White House.
According to the New York Daily News, the Obamas are making a donation to the Washington Humane Society in honor of Sunny.
