Rail in Japan. Will Honolulu's rail system be as attractive?
The City & County of Honolulu awarded the first contract that will kick start TheRail that will be many years in the construction process. The contract for the first stage of this massively-expensive project was secured by Kiewit Pacific Co., today, for the very hearty sum of $482.9 million!
While Kiewitt Pacific may not be as "local" as Honolulu would like it to be, this organization does have a presence in Kapolei.
In spite of all the resistance to this project by many Honolulu residents, Pacific Business News strategically followed up the announcement of this news with another story about the Hawai'i jobless rate increasing to 7.2%. Intentional? Perhaps. Regardless, it was still very effective timing! Hopefully Kiewitt and other contract winners will pull the work force from within the State. That way some of what it is costing the community will be restored.
