In the heart of quaint downtown Garland, nestled on church row, you will find a dynamic community of believers at First Christian Church of Garland. One of the largest Disciples churches in the metroplex, First Christian offers many ways to encounter the Holy.
This church is excited about Angel Food Ministries, an outreach to any person who wants quality food for a reasonable price. They serve as a host site for Angel Food so that more than 100 families in Garland can be blessed by this ministry.
First Christian Church of Garland also serves as a meeting place for a very active Alcoholics Anonymous chapter as well as Boy Scouts of America. They are enthusiastic about the prospect of launching a new chapter of MOPs, Mothers of Preschoolers, in the near future. This chapter will seek to serve the working mother by meeting in the evenings.
First Christian offers a traditional worship service at 9am and a contemporary worship service at 11:15am on Sunday morning at their downtown location in order to appeal to all ages and backgrounds. They offer special services based on the liturgical calendar, including Advent, Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday. This year marked the beginning of a new Christmas tradition, a Blue Christmas service, offering a place for those who grieve at Christmas to lament.
In between services on Sunday morning is a rich opportunity for visiting with friends over coffee as well as Sunday school. There are classes for all ages and interests.
This 135 year old church has moved with grace and purpose through Garland's history, offering good news to a hurting world and a place to call home.
