First baby of the new year welcomed by Banner Health in Glendale

Kendra and Ash Rhodes weren't at a New Year's party or humming "Auld Lang Syne" when the clock struck 12 this year. The Mesa couple rang in 2013 more to the tune of "Happy Birthday."

Baby Malcolm Rhodes was born at 12:04 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2013 at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale. He was the first arrival for Banner Health in Arizona.

Malcolm weighed in at 6 lbs. 13 oz. and was 20 inches long.

The family is from East Mesa. They delivered at Thunderbird because their doctor practices there. Malcolm has a big sister who is 17 years old.

"They were expecting Malcolm to appear in 2012, but he made them wait a bit longer…arriving just minutes into 2013," said Rebecca Armendariz, spokeswoman for Banner Health.

So, the Rhodes family will have to wait another year for their child tax credit, but their snuggly little addition to the family is a good way to start the new year.
