This Saturday, April 9, will see the first annual Mini-Comics Day, created and sponsored by the Minneapolis-founded group for all things comics, the International Cartoonist Conspiracy. There's multiple events going on all over the world, but the Minneapolis event is happening from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, in downtown Minneapolis. There'll also be an afterparty at Grumpy's Bar (practically next door!), from 5:30 to 9:00, where there'll be a prize for Best Local Mini-Comic of the Day.
Those of you raised on Marvel and DC may not be hip to mini-comics, so here's a quick intro: they're basically DIY comics. Low-budget, hand-crafted, locally-grown comics you can hand out to friends or sell at a convention. There'll be free supplies from Wet Paint, as well as some for sale, and of course all the resources of the MCBA will be available for budding comickers. You can use the MCBA's copier for a $5 donation, but Big Brain Comics has generously donated $50 for this purpose, so the first 10 people to use the copier will get to use it for free.
Not kidding here, folks: this event is going to be a lot of fun. Bring the whole family!
