The first annual Metro Atlanta Kids Recycle Day is scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. The event will be hosted by Live Thrive and The Little Green Path Foundation, and will be held at the Atlanta Civic Center. This is a drop off event where volunteers will remove all items to be recycled from cars, and attendees can drive away once their items have been cleared. Little Green Path Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on environmental education for children, and is based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Live Thrive, a 501(c)3, empowers all people to unite, exchange information, opportunities and resources to improve their community’s environment.
One of the event's objective, is to help children improve their understanding about recycling and reusing. Through the support of Ernst & Young, children at the event will receive a coloring book about recycling to help increase their knowledge about the concept. Other highlights of the event: Summer’s Landing is bringing Santa, and Elf Magic is bringing their magical Elf Magic Elves to the event to assist with recycling toys, and engaging children. Global Imports, Gorilla Sacks, Natural Awakenings, Larabar and the Atlanta Hilton will be participating as sponsors and partners.
The event and the recycling services are free, except for a $10 per television fee. Advanced registration is encouraged (see below for the registration link). Items such as books, equipment, coats and bikes are also encouraged for recycling. Atlanta Falcon, Ovie Mughelli’s foundation will be recycling some of the items by distributing them to children. Better World Books will be accepting and distributing books to local schools and shelters.
