First annual Dr. John Hole Tiger Trot in Centerville

Centerville’s elementary school will be hosting its first annual 5K/10K and 1K fun run for students, on April 14, 2013 for walkers, stroller walkers and runners. The race begins at 10 a.m. at Dr. John Hole Elementary located at 180 W. Whipp Road.

The elementary school is excited to introduce a new concept that promotes healthy, fun living and encourages the whole family to be active together. This special race is designed for participants of all ages and abilities.

During a PTO meeting, parents were collaborating on ways to help the community, while also providing funds for school organizations. Currently, Centerville is a participant in the Girls on the Run Program, which inspires young girls to be healthy and joyous by integrating running into their daily lives. To expand that theory, Centerville PTO wanted to bring the joy of running to not only to young girls, but to all.

“We chose Shoes 4 the Shoeless as our charity of choice since it was co-founded by a parent of a Dr. John Hole student and their organization helps children that are in need of new shoes,” said Janelle Kime of the PTO and organizer of the Tiger Trot.

Portions of the money from the race will be divided between a charitable organization called Shoes 4 the Shoeless and the PTO for various school programs.

“Ribbons will be awarded to all 1K participants. Plaques will be awarded for the overall male and female in the 5K and 10K. Medals will be awarded to the top three in age groups,” Kime continued.

The race has gained many supporters and sponsors throughout the community. The current sponsors are Voss Village Cadillac, Cub Scouts Pack 516, Dayton Children’s Medical Center, Select Signs, Geez Grill & Pub, The Fitness Store, The Citizen’s National Bank, New Balance, Chiropractic Associates of Centerville, 31 Consultant Sarah Martin, Scott Custom Graphics, Cindy Buckreus at Coldwell Banker, Heritage Realtors, Lunne Lawn & Landscaping, Up & Running, Road ID & Runners Plus. Sponsor booths will be set up during the racing activities. To obtain more information regarding sponsorship, contact Tracy Watercutter at (937) 435-8917 or TWatercutter@yahoo.com.

In addition to the racing activities, a photo booth will be provided by Liftoff Entertainment and cupcakes will be provided by Go Cupcakes. Electronic timing is to be provided by Speedy-Feet. The event will also offer door prizes and giveaways.

Early registration ends April 2nd and the registration form can be found on the schools website, http://www.centerville.k12.oh.us.
