San Diegans not living near a branch library can get their hands on popular books and videos at a new kiosk at the County Operations Center on Overland Drive in Kearny Mesa. Last Friday, the 20th, the 24/7 Library To Go book check out location became the first in the county's plan to make check outs easier for all San Diegans in the county.
Supevisor Greg Cox, at the afternoon unveiling event, said the iosk is the "county's gift for book lovers across the San Diego region."
Over 400 books and videos stay available for pick up. The pilot project kiosk goes under review for six months. Installations at county locations will continue if the county finds the opportunities for public education and enjoyment improve. Taxpayers get a "good return on the money" spent on the kiosk, Supervisor Bill Horn said.
Installations of Envisionware Inc. stand and software system come next in remote locations. A Bonsall location will extend the library's check out reach.
The new 24 hour 7 day a week library service keeps the books and videos "ready when you are." Library patrons can browse collections at the Library To Go kiosk and put a book on reserve for pick up at a branch library.
