The first production 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray sold at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale Arizona on Saturday (January 19, 2013) right before 8PM PST for $1,100,00. The new owner goes by the name Rick Hendrick, the owner of Hendrick's motorsports.

Bidding started at $100,000 and quickly escalated by hundreds of thousands of dollars to $850,000 where bidding slowly leveled off until someone submitted a million dollar bid. From there excitement really picked up and finally ended with a final bid of 1.1 Million by Rick Hendrick.
Previous on the auction block was a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette racecar (Owens/Corning L-88 race car) which was the most victorious Corvette in history, wins at 24 Hours of Daytona and Sebring 12 Hours, 1969 and 1972 SCCA National "A" Production Champ, American Heritage Award at NCRS and cover car featured in Corvette Racing Legends.

All proceeds went to benefit the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, a Private, fully accredited, four-year college that offers bachelor of fine arts degrees in animation and digital media, crafts, communication design, fine arts and automotive design. Ironically, one of its most famous graduates, is Ralph Gilles, the current CEO and President of Street Racing Technologies also known as SRT, whose halo car is the 2014 SRT Viper.
The 7th generation 2014 Chevrolet Corvette has been a long awaited update for the Corvette faithful since its latest generation which was revealed back in 2005. Ever since 2007, General Motors was rumored to have begun planning for the 7th generation Corvette and only just revealed it to the public on January 13, 2013.
In stark contrast to the 6th generation Corvette which utilized the infamous LSx series of engines, General Motors decided to power the 7th generation Corvette with there new Gen V small block V8 otherwise known as the LT1. With this all new powerplant, the new C7 2014 Corvette would benefit from better fuel economy ( cylinder deactivation) and more power (450 HP in base models).
But what surprised people the most, was the radical new design that General Motors chose for their newest generation Corvette. First off, all body panels are put onto an all new aluminium frame. The hood and removable roof are all carbon fiber ,composite for the fenders, doors and rear quarter panels; carbon-nano composite for the underbody panels.
The distinctive Chevrolet Corvette shape was kept, but that’s about it. The front end is 100% Corvette with more defined HID headlights and sharper front end. The side profile is now graced with a side rear window thanks to intake tracts cooling heat exchangers in the transmission. And finally the most important design change was the switch from circle tail lights in the rear to square taillights in accordance with General Motors current design language (seen on the Chevrolet Camaro). What remains are the quad center tailpipes.
