There was barely a chill in the air this year as the Hauppauge Fire Department made its way through the streets during its 30th Annual Santa Parade on Saturday, December 21. The warm weather made for a delightful nighttime celebration. Taking place in Hauppauge, New York, this yearly tradition brought together neighbors from all over town. Volunteer firemen dressed up their trucks with colorful holiday lights. Holiday music played from the trucks as neighbors crowded around to get a glimpse of all the festivities. Firefighters wore costumes, including a snowman, an elf, a Christmas tree, and, of course, Santa Claus. Stopping at various locations throughout local neighborhoods, children could not wait to take a picture with Santa Claus. The trucks stopped in pre-determined locations throughout the town to let both young and old enjoy the display. A snow machine was adhered to the top of one of the trucks, blowing “snow” over the on-lookers.
Similar parades took place in other towns, as well. No matter where you lived, you could walk up and down the block to get a glimpse of the colorful celebration and catch up with neighbors you haven’t spoken to in a while.
A round of applause must be given out to these volunteer firemen for doing such a superb job. From the lights to the music to the costumes, you couldn’t help but smile and feel the holiday joy.
