A dog named "Lucy," was rescued from a precarious situation on Saturday afternoon.
According to Sunday's NBC News, after disappearing from her Glendale, Wis., home days ago, the dog, a pointer mix, was spotted on an ice floe on the Milwaukee River on Saturday morning.
Somehow she had wandered nearly two miles from her home and she wound up in a dangerous area of thin ice, surrounded by moving water.
In order to safely bring the dog back home, the North Shore Fire Department was contacted.
Rescue crews were mobilized and, due to the frigid, swift flowing water, they donned wet suits and sprang into action.
One of the firefighters who helped bring Lucy off of the ice, Charlie Baldarotta, told NBC News:
"You could tell she was happy to be in human arms again and we're just glad she got back home,"
Lucy had survived days alone in the freezing weather, and following her rescue, was undoubtedly happy to be back inside of her warm home.
Owner, Mike Hibe, expressed his gratitude for the rescue effort made on behalf of his dog:
"It's amazing those firemen go out into that water and do that. That's pretty neat,"
