Firefall dev diary shows player-driven expansion & Mark Kern's super powers

A developer diary from Red 5 Studios Mark Kern talks about how the developers plan to release their F2P (free to play) juggernaut—which took up more than a little floor space at PAX Prime 2011—as well as how player-driven, cross-server cooperation will fuel the growth and expansion of the game.

For the unfamiliar, Red 5 Studios’ upcoming MMOG (massively multiplayer online game) Firefall is basically one part Bordrerlands with a dash of Tribes, which should come as no surprise since the game's lead designer is Scott Youngblood, one of the lead designers for the Tribes franchise (Tribes and Tribes 2). Scott also happens to be a former colleague from our days under the Sierra Online umbrella, and I thoroughly blame him for my current Tribes addiction, despite the fact it's now in the hands of the very capable Hi-Rez Studios with Tribes: Ascend (currently in closed beta).

You can learn more about Firefall from my hands-on impressions taken from PAX Prime 2011 (through which I was guided by Scott himself).

This new Firefall developer diary features Red 5 Studios' CEO/CCO Mark Kern, who shows off some gameplay and talks about how Firefall's expansion will be player-driven and require cross-server cooperation to drive back the game's PvE enemies, The Chosen, and thereby open up more of the game world for more quests, loot, and other surprises.

There aren’t a lot of details offered at this still fairly early stage in the game’s development—but you can find out how to get a shot at getting into the beta to see more for yourself.
