Questions have been raised by a few in the multiple sclerosis (MS) community about being able to own firearms in today’s climate and how difficult it could become when having a neurological disease like MS.
Right now, as it stands, having a neurological disease is not an issue, but someone living in Lima, who didn’t wish to be named for privacy reasons, asked if it could become difficult because of “how crazy some people are being about gun control and how it looks like they are using any and all reasons to restrict others from owning guns.”
Brought up was an article about how doctors could very well have a pretty important role in gun ownership via Obamacare and how President Obama is using executive orders to shove this battle even further along.
She mentioned how her and other people suffering from MS have had to try various anti-depression pills for “a few months to deal with the effects of the disease” and another person in her group was able to talk with their doctor about taking Nuedexta for PBA due to MS.
The concern being how hard many politicians have been pushing for gun control since the Sandy Hook shooting; and how easy it has been for them to be fairly successful already at pushing it.
Especially since the media brings it up nearly everyday.
They are painting broad strokes when speaking of the mental health of the shooter’s mother, who had MS herself, with journalists using the words “gun loving mom” and “she had drinking buddies” and, considering this is just one of many disapproving sentences used to describe her, it has become quite worrisome for many Americans who have neurological diseases.
They worry that having to use anti-depression pills for “a few months” and owning a gun could be turned into something larger because of the momentum the media and the government have at advancing their wants.
What it seems to come down to in this community is like what Karen, another local MS sufferer thinks: “For myself, I wouldn’t want a gun in my house. It doesn’t have anything to do with my MS, more like a personal belief, I guess, but I do think it should be up to someone on whether they can handle having one.”
Meaning, regardless of whether the media or government believes this, it is a personal choice that the Constitution safe guards. Period.
