The National Weather Service (NWS) in Upton, NY has issued a fire weather watch for the entire Tri-State area from Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening. Gusty west winds, low relative humidities, and dry fine fuels may cause increased fire spread if ignition occurs.
The affected areas of the Tri-State area in the fire weather watch includes New York City, Long Island, the lower Hudson Valley, southern Connecticut, and northeastern New Jersey.

According to the NWS, westerly winds of 15 to 25 mph will may gust up to 35 mph and relative humidity values will be as low as 23 percent on Wednesday. In addition, the combination of these factors with relatively little precipitation received over the past couple of weeks, has led to the development of an enhanced wildfire threat. The strongest wind gusts and lowest humidity values are expected to occur on Wednesday afternoon.
A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Residents in the watch are advised to listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings and use extreme caution when burning outdoors. In some areas, outdoor burning is banned for much of the spring season.
