After having just one pick in last week's MLS SuperDraft, the Fire selected three players in Tuesday's Supplemental Draft to bolster its roster for the 2013 season.
The club selected defender John Gallagher with the 30th pick, goalkeeper James Belshaw 49th overall and Caleb Konstanski 68th overall. With the draft picks from the SuperDraft and Supplemental Draft, this gives the club four new players added to its preseason training camp roster.
"We selected three players in John, James and Caleb that we feel can come and compete for a place on our roster," said Fire head coach Frank Klopas in a statement. "These three players have performed very well during their collegiate careers and we're looking forward to having them join us this preseason."
Gallagher will join the Fire from Penn State University after a stellar career with the Nittany Lions. The 5-foot 10-inch defender made 54 appearances in four seasons with Penn State and was named first team All-Big Ten and NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region second team in his senior season.
Belshaw, a product of Duke University tallied 21shutouts in 77 appearances for the Blue Devils over a four-year playing career. In his senior season with Duke, Belshaw posted eight shutouts and earned NSCAA All-American third team honors, Scholar All-American first team honors and was named to the NSCAA All-South Region first team.
Konstanski was captain of the 2012 National Champion Indiana University team and will join the Fire after a great four year career with the Hoosiers. The Bloomington, Ind. native started 70 of 76 matches with Indiana and scored three goals to go along with two assists. Konstanski was named to 2012 College Cup All-Tournament team after winning the national championship and was also named to Second Team All-Big Ten.
