Fire Devastates Michelin-Starred Manresa Restaurant in Los Gatos, California

A two-alarm fire heavily damaged the acclaimed Manresa restaurant in Los Gatos, California early this morning. Stunned spectators watched as the structure was engulfed by fire as firefighters battled the flames. Chef David Kinch is one of the most well-reputed and talented chefs in the country, and his two Michelin-starred restaurant is one of the top dining destinations in the country. Kinch was recently a finalist for the James Beard Foundation's Outstanding Chef of the Year award and previously won the Best Chef for the Pacific region in 2011. Kinch has a following not only in the states but is also well regarded internationally. His cookbook “Manresa: An Edible Reflection” is one of the most popular and bestselling cookbooks that present his philosophy behind the food served at Manresa.

Kinch also travels on the international food circuit, such as Mesamerica in Mexico City, where he was a presenter last year. His demonstration of the process of making his buckwheat popcorn on stage was one the highlights of the event. Manresa is listed on the World’s Best Restaurants list by Restaurant Magazine. This incident will impact not only the chef and his team but all other businesses in the area such as purveyors, diners, and the families of all those as well. Love Apple Farms, which grows produce exclusively for Manresa, will be impacted as well. Last year at the MAD3 symposium in Copenhagen, Cynthia Sandberg of Love Apple Farms and David Kinch gave a joint presentation about partnership in the food industry between chefs and growers.
