Fire Boat Phoenix without a home

The Fire Boat Ramona Doyle was decommissioned in 2003 and the fire station where the crew manned the boat was destroyed and a cruise ship terminal was built in its place.

Three years later in 2006 the Fire Boat Phoenix was commissioned and put on-duty to protect the businesses by the Mobile River and the vessels that use the Mobile River and Mobile Bay.

Now 2012 nine years after the fire station was destroyed, the Ramona Doyle decommissioned, and the new Fire Boat Phoenix commissioned the new fire boat don’t have a place to call home.

The Fire Boat Phoenix has been docked at the Coast Guard Base on Brookley Field for six years. The Brookley Field Coast Guard Base is located at 1891 9th Street Mobile Alabama 36615.

The crew members of the Fire Boat Phoenix report to work at fire station 11 located at 1004 South Broad Street Mobile Alabama 36603. Fire Station 11 is where engine 2 and its crew eat, sleep, and make emergency runs from.

When a dispatch comes in for the Fire Boat Phoenix the crew members have to load up on Engine 2 and travel 1.8 miles or about a 5 minute drive and then proceed to where the fire or emergency is located.

1.8 miles or about a 5 minute drive makes a slow response time for the Fire Boat Phoenix to get underway to a fire or emergency on the Mobile River or vessels that use the Mobile Bay.

If you live in Mobile and you think a five minute drive before the Fire Boat Phoenix can even get underway to a fire or emergency on the Mobile River or Mobile Bay click on each of the website links below to e-mail all Mobile City leaders.

When you e-mail the city leaders below tell each of them a new fire station needs to be built by the Mobile River so the crew members can respond quicker to emergencies and fires to businesses by the water front and to vessels that travel the Mobile River and Mobile Bay.
