According to the 2014 Mac's Midget Tournament website, the Finland U-17 team trounced the Switzerland U-17 team 7-1 in the boys' final of the 2014 Mac's Midget AAA Men's World Invitational Hockey Tournament at Calgary's Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday.
Arttu Ruotsalainen led the Finnish attack with two goals and two assists, while Kasper Bjorkqvist and Jesse Puljujarvi notched a goal and an assist each.
The Finnish team was by far the better team on Wednesday as they dominated puck possession throughout the majority of the contest. Finnish goaltender Veini Vehvilainen just simply was not very busy at all as he made only 14 saves. The Finnish team defense also deserved a lot of credit for not allowing Switzerland to generate many scoring opportunities.
Finland took a 1-0 lead only 1:03 into the game and sailed afterwards. The Finnish U-17 team became the first team from Finland to win the Mac's Midget AAA Men's World Invitational Hockey Tournament since 1992 when the Finland Candidates picked up the trophy.
