If you haven't sampled Portland Dining Month yet, you have plenty of time to get into town and dine, dine, dine. Central Portland wants you to come and dine. So 80 restaurants have gotten together to offer some great three course menus for only $29.
Our group had a marvelous meal at St. Jack on SE Clinton. St. Jack is like stepping into a patisserie/bistro in France. Wood floors and French signage add to the casual chic atmosphere. Diners like to start with a selection from their extensive cocktail menu and pair their courses with fine wines.
But our group was there for the $29 menu. Turns out the dinner was excellent and well worth the trip and the money. The Dining Month menu started out with an excellent beet salad (mild yellow beets and fresh argula and toasted walnuts). We then were treated to the Basque style chicken in a huge pottery bowl. The combination of peppers, capers and olives in the sauce, the polenta and the moist chicken will certainly lead us to return for more. I have to say that our group asked for more French bread to help us savor every last drop of the sauce. By then, we were full but we still enjoyed the little bowl of light Madeleines with a hint of lemon that topped off the meal.
If St. Jack's offering for Portland Dining Month is anything like what the other eateries are offering, the event will be drawing diners to many Portland restaurants for the entire month. There are 80 to choose from.
The Portland Dining Month website is very easy to navigate. Click on the Reservation links beside each restaurant listing to make an OpenTable reservation. For every reservation, they make a donation to Oregon Food Bank.
