Initial interviews allow the pet sitter to meet with you in your home, interact with your pets and discuss services and business policies. These visits are highly recommended for both pet owner and pet sitter. Some pet sitters offer this service at no charge, while others charge a nominal fee for their time and travel expenses.

Does the pet sitter willingly and happily provide references?
PSI recommends that all of its members have a list of references for potential clients to contact.

These are just a few of the questions you should be asking a potential pet sitter, a complete list can be found here: Tips for conducting a Professional Pet Sitter interview

There are many advantages to having a professional pet sitter come to your home instead of boarding them at a kennel. Your pet is happier and experiences less stress at home, their exposure to illness from other kennel boarders is eliminated and you have peace of mind knowing your pet is safe and happy in its own home.

How do you find a professional or at least a very reputable pet sitter? You can go to the Pet Sitter Locater and type in your information and see if any are listed in your area. Another alternative is to check with local pet stores, breeders and groomers and ask if they know of any reliable, professional sitters in your area.

Would never have thought to ask most of those questions but I sure would if I lived in a large community where I didn't know everyone. Good job.
