Finding love 2013: Fresh meat in the online dating market

The holiday season is a time to reflect for many. As the old year ends, many look forward to the incoming year and new beginnings.

New Year's resolutions set the tone for expectations and action taken, to make changes in what we perceive as, unwanted circumstances.

Fitness resolutions, dropping bad habits, and finding a mate are atop the list. Online dating sites receive up to 350 percent more new profile activations, in the beginning of the new year.

Mega online dating sites such as "Match.com" and "Eharmony" experience the year's greatest spike, in new profiles, in January.

Dec. 30, According to Phillip Hodson, of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, the reason for the surge in people signing up to dating websites is down to singletons taking stock of their lot at the end of another year.

Sentimental holidays such as Christmas, New Year e.g. New Year's Eve, and Valentine's Day, seem to create a rough patch for singles without a mate.

If you currently have an online dating profile, you might want to update your photos, and profile, to give yourself a fresh start in the new year.

Besides, there will be more new profiles to peruse, and this may be the year to find your perfect match.
