Finding Irish 'ghosts' in your family tree

Looking for those Irish ghosts in your family’s history? The Phoenix Irish Cultural Center is offering an Irish Genealogy Seminar on March 17 and 18, 2013. Choose your day to come—both events are the same. Sign in begins at 8:30 A.M. both days. Hours of the seminar run from 930 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. both days.

Guest speakers will present an interesting and informative seminar on Irish and Scots-Irish genealogy for beginners and advanced family historians. Seminar includes the introduction to Irish and Scots-Irish Family History Research, The Ulster Plantation—Sources for 17th Century Families, The Great Famine in Ireland and Emigration to North America—1845 to 1856, Sources Available for Research by County, and Solving Your Brick Walls—Practical Internet Tutorial and Resolving Research Queries.

For the little bit of leprechaun in you be sure to take in the 30th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade I Faire on Saturday, March 16, 2013. The parade begins at 10:00 A.M. on 3rd Street from Sheridan to Moreland. An Irish Faire runs from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Irish Cultural Center and Margaret T Hance Park. There will be three stages of Irish Music and Dancing. Enjoy Food and Beverages, Vendors, Crafters, and the Fighting Irishmen Exhibition at the Library.

Adults and children 13 or older $10.00—Children under 12 are free—Seniors (55 or older) and Military $8.00. There will be a free shuttle from 1850 N Central Avenue. If riding the light rail—take the Roosevelt Station exit.
