Finding foster families to assist homeless animals

The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter will host a free foster care and volunteering seminar on Saturday March 23 at noon.

The one-hour talk will provide an overview of the shelter’s programs, and detail all you need to know about the procedures and requirements for becoming involved. Volunteer applications will also be available.

Through the shelter’s Foster Volunteer Program, a family temporarily adopts a shelter dog or cat, to help the animal become more comfortable living in a home environment. Foster families also have the option of adopting their charge permanently.

General volunteers will be assigned a range of different tasks at the facility, itself, including helping bottle-feed kittens that come in during the warmer seasons.

The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh, NY. For more information call 516 785-5220, or visit toh.li/animal-shelter.

Readers are also encouraged to contact shelters in their immediate areas about participating in similar programs where they live.
