Picking your own electives makes room for all sorts of great learning experiences.

DISCLAIMER: I've been invited to try Time4Learning for one month in exchange for a candid review. My opinion will be entirely my own, so be sure to come back and read about my experience. Time4Learning is an online educational program that can be used in many ways including as a homeschooling curriculum or after-school tutorial.

One of the hardest tasks once you've decided to home-school is choosing your curriculum. I mean, how many people can even spell 'curriculum' without using spell check? When I was a child, choosing curriculum was easy as there were few options. You could use a purchased program such as Calvert or you could go to the local public school dispensary and get old textbooks. Sounds easy, right? I sometimes wish it was still so succinct a process.

Today, we have so many options. There are on-line and virtual schools, prepackaged lesson plans, tutoring programs, home school groups that share to find what is right for you?

You can ask everyone, but the fact is YOU will not know what is right for YOU until you find it, and then it might not be a good fit the next year and you will need to start over in your research! You may be schooling more than one child and need entirely different courses of study for each. You might like the science and math from one source and want the social studies and literature course from another. The wonderful thing about homeschooling with modern day resources is that you know your child is getting the same basic information as the children in your local public schools, and you get to pick the electives!

I am not familiar with Time4learning. Will check back to see what you think. The way things are going with the public schools and the money crunch, some wonder if they can continue to exist .
