Finding accommodations in Koh Phagnan, a tiny island off the coast of Eastern Thailand, is not the easiest experience to do days before the illustrious Full Moon Party attracting over 10,000 visitors once every month.
Depending on your price range and open mindedness, it is possible. If you are on a budget, opt out of air conditioning. If you are on a tight budget, forgo the private bathroom.
If you desire beachfront property, look no further than Anan Hostel/Brothel located conveniently on the beach where all the Full Moon Party action takes place. Amenities of the hostel include a wide open deck peering over the dirty beach expanse.
Here you have an overhead view of westerners acting like animals, dancing to repetitive house music, jumping rope with neon string lights, and indulging in the beach’s famous Magic Mushroom Milkshakes.
Other amenities include the 360 degrees of mirrors located around your mattress situated on top a concrete frame attached to the wall. Your bathroom comes complete with a bucket to flush, and shower nozzle located over the toilet on a side wall.
Your security is essential…for yourself, not so much by the staff. A lock is provided and fastened into a latch on the outside and locked with a key that can be easily tinkered with, like the ones you use at the gym.
Coincidentally the electricity of the hostel will probably go out while the festivities are in full swing; use precaution and carry important documents and cash on you when leaving your room.
Everything in your room will most likely be stained or cracked and very hot although the overhead fan about to fly out of its holster does provide a gentle respite from the heat. Some find these sleeping accommodations disconcerting or just plain creepy. But keep an open mind, budget traveler, these “flaws” add character; brothel-chic is the new BnB.
