One thing that has been a disappointment to me and other leaders in the Goddess and Pagan community is how disengaged women and men seem to be in political and social activism these days. We all claim to revere Mother Earth and understand the long herstory of patriarchal oppression of women, (I hope) but how many of us are on the front lines fighting to change things? Unfortunately too many of us just talk about it, or post on Facebook, or have become complacent and have a bad case of apathy. We've thrown up our hands and say things will never change. Well, one thing is sure, if we don't fight back, if we don't stand up, if we don't find our sacred roar, Corporate America and oppressive and denigrating policies and actions against women will have free reign to steam roll us!
We saw how the Occupy Movement's actions changed the conversation in Washington. We came out and kept the White House out of the hands of regressive Rethuglican control. Now you must continue to be persistent. Find that Sekhmet and Kali energy for empowerment and social justice! Walk your talk!
And if this has motivated you even a little, this weekend you have a chance to connect the dots between your spirituality, politics and social activism! Come out and bring your family and friends to the rally and march nearest you and take part in the International Women's Day events to Stop Violence Against Women Everywhere! This is part of the movement that Eve Ensler began years ago and was tipped off this year on Valentine's Day Weekend with the Rise Up and Dance activities across the country. Look down below for links to find a rally and march near you and if you're in Los Angeles, meet up at 1PM at Hollywood and Vine in Downtown LA!
The weather is supposed to be sunny and beautiful! Make a day of it! Bring a picnic lunch! Make signs to vent your frustration and outrage! Believe me, you'll feel empowered and better than sitting home on the couch!
