Pets with Irish names like Shamus, Michael, and Amara are celebrating St. PAWtrick’s Day at the Humane Society of Harford County on Sunday, March 17 from noon – 4pm. No matter whether you’re looking for a companion as small as a leprechaun or one who likes to take walks in fields of clover, all of the animals have hearts of pure gold.
Adoptions counselors will be waiting to introduce you to your lucky charm at the end of the rainbow at 2208 Connolly Road in Fallston, MD. Should you fall in love with a purrin’ paddy cat over the age of five years old, the adoption fee will be just $17. For all other animals, pick your own adoption discount from the pot o’ gold. Whether it’s $10 off an adoption or 50% off, may the luck of the Irish be with you.
Festivities will kick off at noon with a Parade of Dogs that will showcase all the different dogs that are available for adoption. At 1pm there will be a performance of traditional Irish dancing. Ongoing activities throughout the afternoon include rubber ducky races, a beanbag toss, a Frisbee toss, and face tattoos. Enjoy a variety of mouthwatering sweets at the bake sale like cookies, brownies, cupcakes, soda and bottled water, and other goodies. All proceeds benefit the homeless and neglected animals at the shelter that are all waiting to meet you.
Adoptions include a rabies vaccination for animals over 4 months of age, the first set of distemper shots, de-wormer, flea & tick preventative, a microchip for identification purposes, and a general health exam. If not already sterilized, there is a $50 deposit for a HASP (Harford Animal Sterilization Program) certificate so the animal can be spayed or neutered. That fee is refunded upon completion of the procedure within 60 days.
While at the St. PAWtrick’s Day event, check out these adorable pets of the week.

Hi, I’m McCloud and I like to play peek-a-boo. If you’re looking for a steady companion, look no further...I am right here waiting in the shelter’s Free Roam Room. See me peering around the corner? Peek-a-boo! I’m a little shy, so sometimes you’ll see me watching you, and then I’m gone. But other times, I will stay by your side and sit next you to be petted. If you’re looking for a nice buddy, look no further!
Small Critters of the Week – LEELA 2-5
Age: Young Adults
Color: Tan & White
Breed: Rabbits

Adoption Fee: $50/each
What’s tan, white and cute all over? We are! We are a whole family of bunnies named after our mom, Leela! Speaking of mom, she’s here at the shelter too waiting for her forever home. We’re all girls and we’re all tan and white, except for Leela 5 who’s gray and white. If you’ve never owned a rabbit before, please take some time to read about us. We are lifelong companions, so if you just want a rabbit to surprise someone at Easter, get a chocolate one instead!
