Find the perfect polish for your winter manicure

While bright pink, coral and purple polishes may be perfect for a summer manicure, they can look a little out of place on your nails in the dead of winter. When the weather turns cold, rich jewel tones, warm neutrals and dark, sexy shades give your manicure a sophisticated, season-appropriate look. If you’re on the hunt for nail polish shades to wear this winter, here are some colors worth checking out.

Sephora By O.P.I Meet for Drinks

If you’re a fan of nail polishes with a metallic finish, Sephora by O.P.I.’s Meet for Drinks ($9.50) is definitely worth checking out. A rich, deep plum shade, it works with a variety of skin tones and can go from day to night. The Sephora by O.P.I. line of polishes is available exclusively at Sephora, so you can purchase Meet for Drinks from the Sephora website or at Long Island store locations in Garden City, Manhasset, Huntington and Lake Grove.

Essie Mink Muffs

If you prefer a more neutral shade for everyday, Essie’s Mink Muffs ($8) is a great polish for the winter. It’s more interesting than your basic neutral polish because it’s a light brown with purple and mauve undertones. You can find Essie polishes at Long Island CVS, Rite Aid, Duane Reade, Target, and Walmart locations. Essie’s Mink Muffs is also available at Bed, Bath and Beyond stores with an expanded beauty section, including the Westbury, Huntington Station, West Babylon, Lake Grove, Bohemia, and East Northport locations.

Zoya Tao

Gray and silver polish is perfect for a winter manicure, and Zoya’s Tao ($8) is a beautiful light metallic gray. The color is unique, though, because it has soft blue undertones that give it an edgier look. You can purchase Tao and other Zoya shades at the Zoya website. Long Island Ulta locations in Levittown, Commack, Lake Grove and Patchogue carry the line as well.

OPI Russian Navy

If black polish is a little too Goth for your taste, a rich navy shade is a great alternative for a winter manicure. O.P.I’s Russian Navy ($8.50) is a deep navy shade with brighter blue and red shimmers scattered throughout, so it’s not your usual dark polish. Because it’s such a deep shade, though, it may look a little harsh on very fair skin tones. You can find OPI’s Russian Navy at JC Penny locations in Valley Stream and Garden City, as well at Trade Secret in Westbury and the Ulta in Levittown.
