As I've noted, the Administration loves to create policies and claim mandates created by the urgent, expedient, issue of the day. Of course that issue is determined by them to be the prominent topic, which gives them an opportunity to use pain and suffering to generate some new government control and trimming of Constitutional liberties just a little further.
There is death facing the citizens of the United States. Children are vulnerable and dying. It is spread through reckless contact with strangers and many are assaulted in public areas like movie theaters, schools, and walking the streets.
It is called the flu. The Administration hijacked the media the past two weeks, to move from the fiscal cliff disaster (80% of Americans paying higher taxes, despite the claim that it was only the top 2%) by beating the drum loudly on behalf of Newtown, CT. The national media has hardly mentioned the flu in the interim. 47 states now have an epidemic number of cases reported. Some states the flu shots are running out because of the demand. (Didn't President Bush get tons of heat during an outbreak that caught his Administration with a shortage of flu shots?)
Now, pundits are setting the table for the next cause of our economic failures. It's the flu. Yep, news television is suggesting the flu epidemic may be sufficient to impact our economy in the coming quarter. Can you call our economy dynamic if the flu can impact it?
By my on-line research, the CDC estimates the flu annually claims 36,000 lives. In 2010, all gunshot fatalities totalled under 6400. That includes accidental shootings. Try as they might, Joe Biden and Barack Obama cannot create any new laws, executive orders, or other magic solutions. The existing laws are sufficient to protect you, since law-abiding citizens are not the threat. Limiting access to guns will not protect anyone from the mentally disturbed person intent on creating carnage. The laws in Connecticut are already more comprehensive than the national laws, and they did not protect the school children there, because someone who lost control got access to weapons from someone who obeyed the law. The solution is not punishing the law-abiding citizen, however.
Today, an Omaha's child is suspected to have died from the flu. Do we need 19 more to get Joe Biden to start looking into this?
