It is always the simplest observations, the most common situations and the most ordinary remarks that hit the hardest. People laugh the hardest when a stand up comedian observes social stereotypes. People smile the widest when they hear of a beautiful love story similar to theirs. People cry the hardest when they watch a dramatic scene they have found themselves in once in the past.
It's that tinge of familiarity that engages people. It's that sense of empathy that forces a response.
This what makes Reasons to be Happy such a great narrative and theater piece. It is all that is familiar and true.
Three years ago, Steph, Greg, Carly and Kent crashed L.A. theatre scene with their unrestricted portrayal of how desperation to find true love can lead to so much lies and so much self-discovery. This year's version is a continuation of their story, three years after.
Still directed by Neil LaBute is back in the captain's chair. Emmy® nominated Jenna Fischer (The Office), Thomas Sadoski (The Newsroom), Gia Crovatin (Neil LaBute’s most recent Good Luck [In Farsi]) and Josh Stamberg (Drop Dead Diva) grace the stage with their Hollywood-level glamour and hardcore theater-honed comedic timing.
All performances will be recorded live in front of an audience (without sets or costumes) by L.A. Theatre Works to air on LATW’s syndicated radio theater series, which broadcasts weekly on public radio stations nationwide.
