Find Eats and Craft Brews at the Waterfront Bar and Grille

One of my favorite features of the new Lansing City Market is the Waterfront Bar and Grille. It is a cozy, casual bar tucked in the corner of “the barn” downtown.

It opened over the summer (give or take) and I have been a regular ever since. In the warmer months, you can enjoy your drinks and food outside and overlook the Grand River.

The Waterfront has two great features: its selection of micro and craft brew beers and its food.

There is a regular menu, but the real gems are (usually) the daily specials. Over the weekend, I had the meatball sub.

The specials, which often feature ingredients right from the City Market, are always changing, and more often than not, I give them a try. The meatball sub I had was very tasty, and was a much welcomed source of protein after a lengthy swim at the Lansing Community College pool across the street.

But the specials are not the only thing that change. Waterfront offers a variety of craft brew beers, and they usually have something different each time I go. Which brings me to another reason I love this place: the staff.

The staff is small, one or two guys–but it is always the same guys. They remember you, and they know their beers.

There is one problem the Waterfront has, and it is a good one: it is no longer a well-kept secret. It can easily fill up on the weekends, as it is not that big, so keep that mind. Once it gets warmer outside and the patio is reopened, then their capacity is nearly tripled.

Swing by “the barn” and give the Waterfront a try (tip: they offer $1 Old Style drafts on Sundays).
