Financial planning a family affair at Disney's piggy bank exhibit

Kids are never too young to learn the importance of financial planning.

And what better time to start a conversation about money than when they are having fun.

That's the idea behind one of the newest attractions at Florida's Walt Disney World Resort, The Great Piggy Bank Adventure, sponsored by T. Rowe Price.

With kids as the captive audience, the interactive exhibit teaches lessons on four key financial themes: setting goals, saving and spending smartly, staying ahead of inflation, and diversifying your investments.

Kids get to play through several interactive games to get financial lessons including working together and reaching goals.

"Empowering parents to initiate discussion of the topics of saving and investing with their children is more important than ever before," said Edward C. Bernard, vice chairman of T. Rowe Price Group.

"Financial awareness and decision-making is heavily influenced by one's early experiences, making vibrant family discussion a powerful and lifelong educational influence that can help children develop sound financial values and habits," he added.

A piggy bank tracks each group's or person's progress through the exhibit and acts as their own Personal Investment Guide (P.I.G.).

Representing temptation, squander and impulsive behavior, a wolf is behind every corner looking to thwart players' efforts.

An online version of the game is available on Disney's Innoventions web site.
