No one wants to admit it, but allowing your children to spend time in front of the television or--egads--glued to their video games or handheld devices can buy parents some much needed alone time.
Child number one came along and the rules were clear. That child would NEVER watch television unless it was for educational purposes and video games were off the table completely. Enter child number two and shortly thereafter, shild number three. There were days when I may have allowed my children to watch porn if it meant I could get a solid hour of sleep. Just kidding. and they are the BEST. THING. EVER. The house is NEVER as quiet as it is when the children are playing video or computer games and there is--surprisingly--little to no fighting when they engross themselves in these games. Even when one of them has to simply observe the others playing, they are fine with it--they are mesmerized by the events unfolding on their respective screens and THAT is quite helpful.
Laundry is folded, dinner is made, blogs are written, status updates are checked--it's a beautiful thing. The good news is that most of the games they like to play are educational and given the opportunity, they would play for hours.
Now the question is--how long should children be allowed to play said video games? As long as it takes, people. As. Long. As. It. Takes. So go update that status and post that blog, dinner will be on the table early tonight if you just say "yes" to some screen time. Be a good parent tomorrow. After all, according to my friend at http://unpublishedworksofme.blogspot.com/ as commented on http://anothertiredmommy.blogspot.com/, there are people feeding their children liquidized Kentucky Fried Chicken because their lap bands won't allow them to eat the real thing--you definitely could be worse.
