After years of grinding frightened employees into the ground because of the economic collapse that occurred in 2009. Some companies that did survive and have now been turning in some decent profits over the last couple of years have begun to ask their employees who made it through the layoffs to do something incredible, slow down. WHAT!! Yes, companies are starting to realize the toll that working overtime, working on weekends, and working during vacations are taking on their people. Employee burnout is definitely a problem and effects the productivity in every company.
Tech companies in Silicon Valley have been giving their employees perks for years to try to keep spirits up. Google offers free food, gyms, a comfortable atmosphere and even free beer. SAS, a business software company in North Carolina offers employees unlimited sick time and a free health care center. And Goldman Sachs is doing the unthinkable on Wall Street, telling junior workers to stop working on weekends. That`s a few examples of perhaps a shifting culture in the work environment. Is it a little overdue perhaps, but even a little bit of gratitude is a welcomed change. Obviously some bosses are realizing that a more enlightened management style is really better for everyone.
Happy New Year
