If you have spent any time in San Francisco at all, I'm sure you are familiar with The Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theatre. In the unlikely event that you have escaped knowledge of this historic, San Francisco venue, it is an extremely famous nude strip club and theatre. The theatre was opened by brothers, Artie and Jim Mitchell. The Pornographer's Daughter is an autobiographical work by Liberty Bradford Mitchell, the eldest daughter of Artie Mitchell, and runs January 17 – February 16, 2014.
In this one woman show, Liberty tells the story of growing up on the fringes of an X-rated world. The show is directed by Michael T. Weiss (NBC’s “The Pretender”) and produced by San Francisco-based producer and designer Jeff Rowlings, with musical accompaniment by San Francisco rock band, The Fluffers. Liberty does a great job of keeping the audience entertained while weaving the of tale her experience growing up in San Francisco's first family of porn.
Notorious for entertaining a stream of celebrities, politicians, and artists at their XXX movie theatre and strip club, The Mitchell Brothers O’Farrell Theatre, Artie and Jim capitalized on the “free love” movement of the 1970s. Their “Behind the Green Door,” one of the first feature-length porn films ever made, earned a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival and sparked a new wave of adult entertainment. The party ended in February 1991 when Jim shot and killed Artie.
