Sunday, September 6th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., San Francisco will hold its final Sunday Streets event of 2009. A wonderful opportunity for families and cyclists of all ages and abilities to enjoy the Labor Day weekend together--all while riding miles of San Francisco streets and bike paths closed to vehicular traffic--Sunday Streets is an event you don't want to miss.
A few weekends each summer, the Sunday Streets program cordons off a section of San Francisco's streets to automobile traffic, and creates a grand promenade of people on bicycles and on foot--enjoying eachother and the simplicity of human-powered movement--all without the stress of cars and trucks and exhaust fumes.
A can't miss event from the words "traffic free," this outdoor festival celebrating bikes, pedestrians, and other human-powered transport is always a guaranteed way to enjoy the city and put a smile on each face in your family!
This Sunday's event will enable riders, walkers, runners, and roller-bladers to enjoy car-free pavement and bike trails from the San Francisco Zoo on Sloat Street, to Martin Luther King Drive, and continue to Stanyan. The route is a real treat--giving views of the Pacific from the Lower Great Highway, taking cyclists through Golden Gate Park, and including the area around the de Young and the Academy of Sciences. Participants can enter the event all along the course, and may walk or ride all or any part of the course in either direction. This is a leisure event--made for fun, not speed--and smiles abound!
Over the course of the route, participants of all ages will enjoy live music, dance demonstrations, a street fair at Taraval Street between 46th and 47th Avenue, as well as fitness and yoga exhibitions. One and all can learn how to roller-skate, waltz, and hula hoop! Activities especially for the kids are scheduled to include the Zoomobile, penquins, kids' games, and crafts.
For those who don't have their own bicycles, Bike & Roll and Bay City Bike Rentals are offering special rental deals. For more information about this great event, including route maps, bathroom locations, and special event details, go to www.SundayStreetsSF.com.
Bring your bicycles, your unicycles, your high-wheelers, your roller-skates, and your tandems! You will have a great time at Sunday Streets 2009!
