The Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) announced the final rules for late-season migratory bird hunting in 2013-14. FWS announced the rules on Friday, Sept. 20 and they take effect immediately. You can find them at http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2013-09-20/html/2013-22870.htm.
The rules set the dates states can choose for hunting. They end the process involving a series of proposed rules, comment peroids and discussions with regional flyway councils FWS announced starting in April. See stories linked to below for details.
The rules for late-season hunting follow the same thoughts and comments used for the early-season hunting FWS recently announced.
Among highlights, FWS determined that because of an estimated increase in the canvasback population, it will allow a two-bird daily bag limit.
FWS will allow a special experimental Canada goose season in Indiana because of an increase in goose population in the state.
The bag limit for white-fronted geese will be increased from two to three in California's Sacramento Valley Special Management Area.
