Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase has disclosed a status update for upcoming PS4 and Xbox One titles, Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3. According to a report by VideoGamer from Feb. 13, Kitase reassures fans that the two major titles aren’t negatively impacting each other and that neither game is taking valuable resources or time away from the other.
When asked for a status update on Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV, Kitase shared that Final Fantasy XV is quite far in development and that the title is a high priority within the company.
However, he continues to note that just because Final Fantasy XV is marked as a high priority, that doesn’t mean Kingdom Hearts 3 isn’t an important or high priority title, as well. Find Kitase’s full comment below:
"We can't give too much information but certainly looking at Final Fantasy XV, it's not as if it's in competition with Kingdom Hearts 3 for resources or anything like that. It's quite far into development now and it is being given a very high priority within the company itself, but that doesn't mean Kingdom Hearts isn't."
Final Fantasy XV has been in development for some time now. Having started off as Final Fantasy Versus XIII and scheduled to release as a PS3 exclusive, the title has been a project within Square Enix since 2006.
At E3 2013, Square Enix announced that Versus XIII would be renamed Final Fantasy XV and that it would no longer be a PS3 or Sony exclusive. Instead, the game is now scheduled for release for PS4 and Xbox One.
Square Enix has not announced a release date for either Kingdom Hearts 3 or Final Fantasy XV. Expect to see and hear more on these titles at E3 2014 or the Tokyo Game Show later this year.
