Yosuke Matsuda has provided some comments in regards to his company’s plans with the PS4 and Xbox One. According to a report by Lazy Gamer on Dec. 13, the president of Square Enix was featured in the latest issues of the Famitsu gaming magazine in Japan.
Yosuke Matsuda admitted that the publisher will be focusing on mobile phones. The company is planning to port older titles as well as release new video games to portable devices. He reassured fans, however, that Square Enix will still focus on releasing flagship titles for high end devices like the PS4 and Xbox One. “Final Fantasy XV,” “Kingdom Hearts 3” and the next “Tomb Raider” video game were used as examples. You can check out some screenshots from the action role-playing games in the slideshow to the left of this article and his comments below (courtesy of Lazy Gamer and Siliconera):
Domestic development will not be completely devoted to just smartphone devices. For high-end devices such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, we will continue focusing on them with our “flagship” titles. We’ve already announced Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, which our domestic studios are working on, and our foreign studios are working on a sequel for Tomb Raider.
“Final Fantasy XV” and “Kingdom Hearts 3” currently do not have official release dates as both titles were just announced several months ago. Square Enix also did not provide any details so far regarding the sequel to “Tomb Raider” other than confirming its existence.
Yosuke Matsuda took over the company earlier this year after the former president, Yoichi Wada, resigned in March. The publisher any has been struggling financially due to high development costs and disappointing sales.
