“Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn” received a new patch on Thursday for the PS4, PS3 and PC. Patch 2.25 is the latest update to the massively multiplayer online role-playing game and focuses almost exclusively on player versus player (PvP) content. However, the Zodiac Weapon Quest has been delayed.
The new patch makes changes to the The Wolve’s Den, the PvP arena in “Final Fantasy XIV” that supports 4 vs 4 and 8 vs 8 player combat. The maximum PvP rank has been increased from Rank 30 to Rank 40 and introduces new job-specific PvP gear for characters to wear into battle. Almost 90 new pieces of gear have been added. You can see the full list in the patch notes the official site.
“New quests, adjustments to existing content and a variety of other changes” was also mentioned by Square Enix but details on exactly what that entails has not been released. The new quest is “Marvelously Mutable Materia” and is for level 19 players located in Central Thanalan.
Fans of PvP will be excited to learn that today’s patch increases the PvP rank to Rank 40 (previously 30) and introduces new job-specific PvP gear for each job to wear into battle. Completing this quest unlocks the ability to transmute Materia.
In a letter from the Producer, Naoki Yoshida reveals that the Zodiac Weapon Quest has been delayed to patch 2.28, which is currently scheduled for a May release. The reasoning behind is because many players have not yet obtained an Animus weapon, the development team needs time to incorporate feedback on the quest and they are working on increasing the number of locations where the necessary materials for the quest can be found.
Interestingly, the release of the PS4 version of “Final Fantasy XIV” greatly increased the number of people streaming the game through the console’s “Share” features. Yoshida said that “the team and I are enthralled with what we've been seeing.
