Mitchell Herrin and Chris Durand had one goal in mind in their latest film Secret Family Recipe. They would give their audience what they asked for. Gore, gore, and more gore. They did this by taking us to the most uncomfortable place possible; the neighborhood barbeque. If after you watch this film, you think twice about the next neighborhood get-together then Herrin and Durand have done their job well.
Herrin has found that his favorite part of being a filmmaker is actually seeing it come to life as the actors bring their own twist to the character. While Durand focused on creating a solid script after developing the story to its fullest before lets the actors take it on. The two found that in this project their styles came together to create a nicely crafted film with enough gore to make the hardened gore watcher queasy.
Together Herrin and Durand, where thrilled with the process of filming the Secret Family Recipe. They were lucky to have great weather. Every filmmaker in Florida knows the challenge of the changing weather. Herrin and Durand are no strangers to that dance. During their previous two projects Self Storage and Language of the Sick, they encountered some brutal weather including severe heat and heavy rain. This time around it was smooth and breezy.
Currently the Filmmaking pair are taking their receipt to the filim festivals, and creating name recognition for their production company Get Coned Production. Secret Family Recipe will be in the Atlanta Horror Film Fest, Freakshow in Orlando and the Reed Terror in Tampa to name just a few. While the film makes its rounds the two will be busy on the final process of completing their film Language of the Sick. Then plans for their next project Last Bus Tonight will go into development, followed by Complex 7.
The pair has a long term goal of being recognized as brilliant filmmakers. They both have learned from the process so far, striving for excellence with each production. In the next five years you can expect to see the filmmaking pair of Get Coned Productions transition into some high quality feature films that audiences will be lining up to see. Get Coned Productions chances for success is strengthened by a solid team behind them. For them its more than about making a movie, they’ve already done that.
Drawn to the film industry at an early age of 8, Herrin puts his passion into everything he does on screen and off. “I am fascinated by the mechanics of it and the idealogy of it all. It feels like this is what I was meant to do” according to Herrin. Durand was a little more reluctant to take the leap of a filmmaker, but when he read the script he knew it was something he had to do. It wasn’t an easy process on the first film. Durand and Herrin took the challenges in stride learning and growing from the experience. The two are now prepared, and focused on making great films. Herrin has been able to create a plate for to showcase his acting talent with strong powerful roles, he wasn’t getting otherwise.
“The best advice I can give is if you want to spend your time, money and effort to make a movie, DO NOT HALF-ASS IT!!! Believe in your vision and put everything you have into it” Chris Durand.
