Filmmaker Patricio Ginelsa (Black Eyed Peas "The APL song," Bambu "Old Man Raps," Native Elements "Bigger They Come") has launched his first Kickstarter campaign to produce "Lumpia 2" the sequel to his 10-year-old "ultimate homemade movie" film festival hit "Lumpia" in his hometown of Daly City, California.
The filmmakers announced the sequel after a reunion screening of "Lumpia" at Century 20 Theaters in Daly City last Aug 9. A Los Angeles screening will be held at CGV Cinemas on Sept. 5.
With an ambitious goal of raising $50,000 by Sept. 10, the filmmakers are asking fans to back that "Lumpia" by visiting:
Named after the deep-fried Filipino dish, Lumpia is a homemade feature that was shot in Daly City with Ginelsa's neighborhood friends over a seven-year span beginning in the summer of 1996.
When it finally debuted in 2003, the film won over film festivals and community screenings, gaining itself a cult following.
The homemade movie even got noticed by Hollywood with a positive film review from Variety:
"Taking low-budget to new heights, LUMPIA is a youth project that got delightfully out of hand. " - Variety Jan. 14, 2004
