Filming for 'Divergent' confirmed to take place in Chicago (Photos)

Divergent lovers rejoice!

Chicago, the very heart of the five-factioned world has been officially selected as the filming location for the book-to-film adaptation of Veronica Roth's best-seller.

As confirmed by the Chicago Sun Times, Illinois state governor Pat Quinn's office fought for the film's production to take place in the area and ultimately succeeded in drawing the filmmakers in.

"They’ve been busy for months wooing a new blockbuster to Illinois," a source reports, adding that pre-production should begin in the next few months to develop a local crew.

The fact that Divergent will be filmed in its literary location is quite a win for the city. Some other fellow young adult book-to-film franchises have utilized alternate locations for shooting than their book bases (like Beautiful Creatures in Louisiana rather than South Carolina and The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones in Toronto rather than New York City).

Neil Burger will direct the picture, which will star Shailene Woodley as the lead heroine Beatrice "Tris" Prior. While several actors have tested for the hunky part of Tobias "Four" Eaton, no official selection for the role has yet been announced.
