Film Independent's 2011 LA Film Fest releases smart phone apps

Looking for quick, easy access, on the go, to films, events, tickets, and more at the 2011 Los Angeles Film Festival then you are in luck.  According to a recent press release, Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and LAFF, along with mobile developer MacroView Labs, have released the official mobile apps for this year’s fest.  These apps are free (awesome), location-aware iPhone and Android apps that provide real-time updates about the films, filmmakers, news, events, and more at the fest.  From the friends I have talked to that have used it so far, they really like it, as do I.

One of the nicest parts in my checking it out was the ability to buy tickets through your phone, very cool.  But there is a lot more.  You can sort, search, or check out summaries of the films by a number of methods like venue, title, director, etc.  You can use it with GPS to find your way around the fest locations, get directions, and as they point out, drop a pin onto the map to easily get back to where you parked.  You can get weather and traffic updates, or find out which restaurants and business are involved with the fest and are providing discounts for passholders or attendees.  You can check out trailers as well.  It is really impressive and for free, you can’t beat it.

To get the iPhone app, head to the iTunes Store at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/los-angeles-film-festival/id376515266?mt=8 or for the Android app, head to the Android Market at https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mvl.laff.

Just another way LAFF is trying to make it easier to come to the festival, which is what anyone reading this in the LA area should try to do over the next ten days.  Look for much more as The 2011 Los Angeles Film Festival continues on, with reviews of some films you don't want to miss and coverage of events throughout the fest.  For continuing coverage of LAFF and other film festivals in the future, you can receive these articles directly as they are published by clicking on the “Subscribe” button at the top of this piece.  You can also follow me on Twitter by searching for ericshlapack or by clicking the link below.
