The 50-question quiz is based on facts from the more than five hundred films that the National Film Registry at the Library of Congress have recognized as significant works of American cinematography.
The quiz is a companion to Independent Lens documentary, These Amazing Shadows, a film by two California-based filmmakers that explores the National Film Preservation Act of 1988, a law that created a system to identify notable films.
The documentary weaves interviews with archivists, actors and filmmakers with scenes from the films such as Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles, Steven Spielberg's ET and John Singleton's Boyz n the Hood and illustrates how cinema has become a medium that puts a lens on the American experience.
