Fillmore man who fatally shot dog killed by Ventura County Sheriff's deputies

Josue Jimenez, 33 died from multiple gunshot wounds on Wednesday afternoon at his residence on the 700 block of Blaine Ave. after he refused to surrender his drawn gun.

The Southern California Ventura County Sheriff's Department was notified about the presence of a man carrying a gun at the campus of the Mountain Vista Elementary School. When deputies arrived, the man had left but authorities were able to follow him to his home on Blaine Ave.

According to the LA Times, deputies ordered Jimenez to drop his weapon, but Jimenez instead fired at a dog and then turned toward the deputies at which time the deputy fired.

Jimenez was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Deputies performed first aid on the dog and transported him to an emergency veterinarian hospital where he later died.
