Fillmore Jazz Festival to showcase region's jazz women

Fillmore Jazz Festival

Fourth of July weekend will bring the Fillmore Jazz Festival’s 2014 edition.
Billed as the largest free jazz festival on the West Coast, the event goes down on Fillmore between Jackson and Eddy in that distinctive and historic San Francisco district. This year’s theme – perhaps in reaction to the recent dust up over Wynton Marsalis’ recent Northern California shows with his decidedly male Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra? – is “Celebrating Women in Jazz and Beyond.”

This year's Fillmore Jazz Festival embraces the spirit, insight, beauty and power of women expressed through music. "Celebrating Women in Jazz and Beyond" is just that – a celebration. Re-connect with old friends and discover new ones. The Bay Area is blessed with an abundance of talented, inspiring women in the arts. This weekend will feature just a few. Explore and enjoy.
