What a month for the nerds of the world! This year, the month of November is chalk full of films and events to satisfy the geek hunger from the small drought between the summer and late fall movie hits. Since the release of Man of Steel, Wolverine and Star Trek: Into Darkness, not many cinema films have drawn in the crazy and radical fans. All that is about to change, starting on the first day.
On Friday, November 1 the first anticipated movie will hit the theaters. Ender's Game is the movie adaptation of the novel by Orson Scott Card. It portrays a future time where deadly aliens have attacked earth and the only salvation for the human race is that of a young boy's mind. Filled with a terrific cast such as Asa Butterfield and Harrison Ford, this film promises to be the feast at the end of a dry spell.
Only a week from the first film's release will follow the release of a new chapter to one of Marvel's superhero's. The continuation of Thor's life and love will enfold in Alan Taylor's Thor: Dark World. Taking place after the successful Avengers film, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) must learn to trust his brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleson), as they return to Earth and battle a new villain, Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston), to save the universe. With the return of old characters and places and assurance of new ones, this film might hammer out any remaining hunger for a sci-fi film.
For those still hungry for more, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will come to theaters November 22. The continuation of the film adaptations of the book series by Suzanne Collins picks up right after the victory of Katniss and Peeta at the end of the first. Things will escalate quickly when the nation of Panem readies itself for the Quarter Quell and nothing is certain as our main characters fight not only to stay alive, but also for their freedom. Such a story filled with action and drama will no doubt leave audiences breathless.
Still waiting for something more for an acquired taste? Why not take a space story, add a threat to save the universe, a good measure of a war against an elite society, a pinch of drama and a promise of humor and let it simmer for about 50 years? Out pops a souffle of a Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special! On November 23, millions of Whovians in 75 different countries will be able to join together and simultaneously watch the BBC show on this incredible day. Select theaters across the world will be tuned into the live broadcast. Even more theaters will hold a special event two days after for a 3D showing of the special and an added bonus of extra features for theater goers exclusively.
This month is easily the geek dinner party of 2013. The excitement is building and the table is set. Get ready to dig in!
